New Camera at Last

We finally got a new camera during the week. It's the new Canon EOS 400D with a list price of $1,399 but which we got by just paying the insurance policy excess of $100. Woo hoo! Anyway, I borrowed a portrait lens from one of Ger's work colleagues to take the following. I'm still getting used to it though (photo nerds: it opens right up to f1.8 and is hard to focus as a result) so the following were the best I could do today.

Let me know what you think of the camera once you have used it a while Dave. Very tempted to buy something simular. Great deal by the way!
The photos are beautiful, especially Ger and Anna. John has loads more hair since last pictures.

Thanks Han. The camera is superb but the portrait lens is really difficult to use. For one thing, it's fixed so you have to move around a lot more - you get so used to being able to zoom with other lenses. But the hardest thing is trying to focus it when it's at f1.8. It picks up lots of detail for sure but you can have the person's eyes in focus and their ears will be out of focus! I'll probably close it down a couple of stops for the next batch.
